| Despite
the confusing number of electricity tariffs being offered
by the power distribution companies to consumers in
recent years, many of them still penalise the consumers
who operate equipment with inherent poor power factor.
Improving the load power factor by the consumer reduces
current consumed by the substation transformer and in
the cables of a distribution system. A higher operating
power factor results in the lowering of energy costs,
more effective system protection and an increased life
expectancy of the equipment connected to the distribution
system.
A high power factor power distribution
system makes a cost effective optimisation of transformer,
protection and cable sizing consequently lowering the
cost of installation.
We have years of experience of designing
and installing automatic power factor correction equipment
and we offer a power factor and power quality analysis
service.
The analysis will determine the power
factor of an installation and the level of harmonic
distortion, we will calculate the level of correction
necessary to achieve a target level and we will present
the anticipated energy savings and the amortisation
period as well as designing and installing the automatic
correction package.
Our automatic power factor correction systems include:
- High performance capacitors.
- Microprocessor Control Unit- with monitoring and
protection for:
- Over voltage.
- Over current.
- Over temperature.
- Harmonic distortion.
- Electronic compensation control:
- Extends capacitor life.
- Reduces capacitor stress.
- Reduction in heat dissipation.
- Integral system diagnostics.
Our power factor system modules each have separate
fuse protection for the capacitor bank and for the switching
modules. Door interlocked isolators are fitted to the
front opening door to provide the highest possible levels
of equipment and operator safety. Component life is
significantly extended by the use of precise automatic
capacitor switching devices, and thermostatically controlled
fan cooling.
We use high quality European made capacitors, magnetics
and other components, the overall attention to construction
detail results in our correction systems being resilient
to radiated interference and to mains-borne harmonic
distortion and voltage fluctuations and disturbances.
In electrical installations where there is a high level
of harmonic distortion produced by the connected loads,
the resonant frequencies will interact with the power
factor correction modules, we would therefore fit anti
resonant harmonic distortion filters into the power
factor correction system.
