The use of the correct type of cable is of vital importance to ensure a secure and safe power supply to the aircraft when it is on the ground. The airport environment subjects cables to mechanical damage from baggage trolleys and other vehicles, the cables are also subjected to abrasion when dragged over the concrete apron or uncoiled from pits and reelers.

The aircraft ground handling environment presents harsh duty conditions for cables, they have to be designed for mechanical strength, conductor insulation as well as meeting the electrical criteria for current carrying and voltage drop. Our flexible cables must withstand some abuse, rough handling and be impervious to kerosene, de icing chemicals, mineral oils and other spillages. The cables supplied by Power Systems International are made from the highest quality materials and are designed to maintain their flexibility in sub zero temperatures and in the intense heat of summer in the Middle Eastern airports and military air-fields.

Power Systems International supplies fully prepared 400Hz cable harnesses using twisted flexible cables provided with control wires and fitted with an aircraft power connector and can be delivered with an optional feature allowing remote control of the frequency converter output.

Fully prepared flexible cable harnesses are also available for 28V DC for engine starting and battery charging. These harnesses are also provided with a standard aircraft connector with or without the remote control feature.

Cable reeling systems

Cable reeling systems and service pits are also supplied by Power Systems International for use with 400Hz flexible cables or for 28V DC cables. The electrically powered cable reelers can be supplied with fixings to mount under passenger loading bridges or can be provided with floor stands for use in hangars and maintenance workshops or underslung from mezzanine floors.

A manually operated cable reeler system is also available for the 400Hz cables and 28V DC cables for use in the locations where mains power is not readily available.
