Static Transfer Switches
Static Transfer Switches (STS) transfer the power supply between independent single phase or three phase alternating current (AC) power sources. In the event of an interruption or abnormal conditions in one source feeder the critical load will be transferred to the second power source without interruption of power to the connected load. Designed using silicon controlled recitifier (SCR) power switching elements, the STS provides an extremely fast load transfer, typically 1/4 of a cycle, which is 1/20th of the time taken than by the traditional automatic transfer switches (ATS). This high speed load transfer guarantees the uninterrupted opertation for even the most sensitive electronic equipment.
Static Transfer Switches can be installed in distribution boards for the power industry, in power supply systems for the petrochemical industry, in telecommunications centres, in operating theatres and intensive care units in hospitals, as well as many other applications for equipment which is highly sensitive on supply interruption.
Our static transfer switches can operate with the default source selected as A or B to feed the critical load, on failure of the selected source the load will be transferred in synchronism to the alternative source. Sizes are available from 10kW to 1,000kW with three switching elements as standard for the three phase system, a manual wrap around bypass switch is also provided. A power flow status mimic and alarm indicating mimic with separate digital or analogue metering is fitted as a standard feature.
Utilising a unique 'break-before-make' transfer method which transfers a load without ever connecting two power sources to each other, our STS series also eliminates the possibilty of damage to either power source and allows for transfer between two dissimilar power sources.
