DC to DC Converters

DC Power Supply Systems

DC to DC power systems convert the voltage level of a power source to a battery and deliver to the load a stabilised voltage output voltage and produce an extremely reliable power supply.

These converters can be used in a battery powered system or load where the polarity can be reversed, or connected to an earthed system with an unearthed system due to the use of  galvanic isolation.

DC to DC converters act as a cost effective solution to reducing the number of battery based supply systems with different rated voltages. This saves the cost of installing and maintaining additional batteries, whilst guaranteeing the back up time of all loads is the same.

These power supply systems can be configured in a modular structure with a number of DC to DC units running in parallel in order to match the power requirements. The modular structure comprises of redundant converters which secure the load in case one of the modules fails. For example, a user who needs three modules to power the intended load can add a fourth module to avoid power interruptions. This ensures that the units are highly reliable and also allows for the failed converter to be replaced without the need of switching off the power supply.

A further advantage to the modular DC converters is there scalability. Future power expansion can easily be prepared for by including pre-wired empty slots for additional modules at very little additional cost. Making these units extremely flexible.

DC to DC converters can be used to supply high battery powered systems of 750V, 440V, 220V or 110 V  to obtain low voltages of 24V, 48V, etc. As well as to acquire high voltage loads of 220V or 110V for low battery supplies of 24V, 48V etc.

Our converters are commonly used for applications which demand a high level of reliabilty under severe envionmental conditions in industries including railway and tramways, telecommunications, power generation plants, chemical plants, oil refineries and  in factories.

Below is our current range of DC to DC converters:

CETACT 2

CETACT 2

This range of 19 inch rack mounting DC to DC converters has been developed for use on light rail vehicles, trams, trolley buses and metro cars for use with the on board communications systems and other auxiliaries where a stabilised 24 volts DC or 48 volts DC is required.

The CETACT 2 units have been designed for installation in the Siemens Deuwag trams as mechanically and electrically interchangeable converters as substitute replacements for the originally as built tram equipment.

WMR Series

400 Watt DC to DC Converters

Heavy duty, modular DC to DC converters provide an isolated, high stability, regulated and adjustable DC output from station batteries or other widely fluctuating DC sources. These 1U (44.45mm) high converters are suited to space limited applications to power communications equipment, supervisory control systems and other sensitive electronic equipment. They are usually installed on board rail vehicles to supply power to the UHF/VHF microwave transmitters and receivers, voice/data radio equipment.

Conservatively rated and very efficient, these DC to DC converters will operate at any load within their rating over a wide ambient temperature range with simple convection cooling. These converters have a minimal no load input power, loss of about 5 Watts, and correspondingly high light load efficiencies make them uniquely suited for application where extended periods of 'standby' service are encountered.

This system can be supplied either with a single or dual output, with inputs of 24, 48 or 120V DC. The single output models are available with nine different configurations, whilst for the dual model eighteen standard configurations are possible.

We also supply inverters, converting DC to AC current, in this 19" 1U rack construction.
